BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION

Building and Construction Sector Overview:

The Indian building and construction sector is one of the most important contributors to the country’s economy. It employs more than 35 million people and contributes to about 10% of the GDP. The sector is also responsible for developing infrastructure, housing, and commercial and industrial buildings.

India’s building and construction sectors have been growing rapidly in recent years. The industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.5% from FY2018 to FY2022. The growth of the sector is primarily driven by the increasing demand for infrastructure development and housing and the growing number of foreign tourists visiting India.

The Indian government has taken various initiatives to promote the growth of the building and construction sector in the country. Some of the major initiatives include the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a scheme to provide affordable housing for all, and the Smart Cities Mission, an initiative to develop 100 smart cities in India.

The building and construction sector is expected to continue growing at a strong pace in the coming years, supported by the government’s initiatives and the growing demand for infrastructure development and housing.

Use of Pumps in the Building and Construction Sector:

In the construction industry, pumps are used for various applications, including supplying water to job sites, providing drainage for excavations, and delivering concrete to high-rise buildings. Centrifugal pumps are the most common type of pump used in the construction industry due to their versatility and relatively low cost.

When choosing a pump for a particular application, it is essential to consider the required flow rate and the pressure at which the pump must operate. Other important factors include the material that will be pumped (e.g. water, concrete, or sludge), the distance that the pump will need to transport the fluid, and the operating environment.

There are many different pump manufacturers, and it is crucial to select a reputable brand that offers good after-sales support. Some players opt for renting a pump instead of purchasing one, thinking that it will be more cost-effective in the long run. But this often leads to more time wastage. Instead, it is better to understand the pump requirements and procure the right set of pumps.

Pump Applications in the Building and Construction Sector:

Pumps are an essential part of the Building and Construction sector and are used in a variety of applications:

TRANSFER WATER

Pumps are used to transfer water from one place to another. This is often necessary for construction projects where water needs to be moved from one area to another.

CREATING VACCUM

In particular construction activities, a vacuum needs to be created. For this purpose, pumps can be used, and necessary tasks can be completed.

PUSHING CONCRETE

In the construction sector, concrete needs to be transferred from one point to another, especially from ground level to places of height. Heavy-duty pumps are used for this purpose.

TRANSFER OIL

Pumps can also be used to pump oil. This is often necessary for construction projects where oil needs to be moved from one area to another for fuel purposes or other needs.

PUMPING WATER

One of the most common pump applications in the building and construction sector is pumping water, be it to the overhead tanks or specific places within the building or construction area.

OPERATING MACHINES

Pumps are extensively used to create the pressure needed to operate heavy-duty construction machines like cranes, JCB, etc. As a result, these machines help in expediting the construction work.
